Atlanta DAM Meetup started

There are quite a few organizations based in Atlanta, Georgia. Many of them are either actively using Digital Asset Management (DAM) or are very interested in using Digital Asset Management (DAM), within and across their organization. It would only make sense that Atlanta would have their very own DAM Meetup group so they could discuss hot topics about DAM and learn from each other.

Elizabeth Keathley took the initiative to do just that. Atlanta DAM was founded June 20, 2013 and has announced their first event  in July.

You can find out more about Atlanta DAM at http://www.meetup.com/Atlanta-DAM/

For those in Atlanta who interested in DAM, this is the time to peel your fingers off your keyboards, mice and tablets for a few hours. This is the time to socialize with other people who work with Digital Asset Management. Join some like minded people in Atlanta who work with DAM and you will be surprised what you have in common across organizations when it comes to DAM. You are not alone in the world of DAM and there are plenty of you out there. Come out, share your experiences, challenges and successes. You might even learn something just by listening.

There are a few DAM Meetups around the world, including NYC Digital Asset Managers which I co-organize with over 520 members.  All you need is enough people willing to come out to one location and Meetup every so often to discuss Digital Asset Management. Do you have a DAM Meetup in your area?

Elegant Workflow

One year ago today,  Dave Ginsberg released an interview with this blog’s author on his podcast called Elegant Workflow

You can listen to this podcast interview here

In the past year, Dave has produced some great podcast interviews with people in the audio, movie and television world, including some Digital Asset Management professionals. I would encourage you to listen and subscribe to his podcast. Dave continues to deliver more great podcast episodes at http://www.elegantworkflow.com

The length of the interviews on Elegant Workflow are a bit longer in time than Another DAM Podcast, however these are often released as a multi-part series to bring you back for more. These are well worth the time to listen and learn from what is said. Of course, he asks every interviewee what is their definition of an Elegant Workflow. The answers are different every time.

When will I find the time to listen to all these podcasts?

Ever wonder when you could possibly have the time to listen to all these podcasts? These are often released weekly, but they are recorded so you can play them anytime, anywhere and as often as you need them.

Here is how I am able to listen to over 1000 podcast episodes on a variety of topics every year. I realized a few years ago that my ears are more available than my eyes and hands.

Ever wonder what you could do with all that time you spend:

  • traveling (even to/from work/school)
  • doing certain types of tasks that do not take any concentration
  • walking around town
  • exercising
  • waiting in line
  • waiting for your significant other

Now that you have discovered all this free time for your ears, what are you going to do with it productively?

Here is an idea: Listen to podcasts or even audio books. There are plenty of online libraries that have audio content to suit your interests. Now that bookstores are going the way of the dinosaur, your local library may have some free resources such audio books which may be of interest to you as well.

How do I listen to this?

If you live and thrive in the 21st century, you likely have at least one mobile device (such as a smart phone) that can store and play MP3 audio files. Most podcasts are available in this universal audio format, among others. Podcasts can be subscribed to, so you are automatically aware of them and downloaded (via WiFi) upon release of new content. If you have a mobile device, you likely carry it everywhere you go (the idea behind being mobile anywhere). Once these audio files are downloaded and if you happen to go places that do not have full coverage (such as subway or train tunnels among other places), you do not have to worry about getting cut off as if you were streaming these audio files online nor over use of your data plan for your mobile device. Every time your ears are idle, use your mobile device to play your favorite audio podcasts and continue learning every day.

NYC Digital Asset Managers Meetups now shared on YouTube

Due to a global popular demand, the New York City Digital Asset Managers Meetup group (NYC DAM Meetup) is beginning to record and post their Digital Asset Management (DAM) Meetups on YouTube.

Who wanted this online

DAM professionals, people aspiring to become DAM professionals, people just interested in Digital Asset Management and people just interested in what is going on have asked for the NYC DAM Meetups to be recorded and shared online for the past couple months.

They emailed, tweeted, left comments and messages pleading to sharing this content online.

So the three organizers of NYC DAM Meetups, Chad Beer, Michael Hollitscher and Henrik de Gyor (author of this blog) figured out how we could  share this knowledge online with the right quality.

Why

We looked to see what we could do to make this happen. Why were these local events so popular and in demand?

Maybe it is due to the fact we had 33 Meetups since Chad Beer created the NYC DAM Meetup back in July 2009.

Maybe it is because we had 8 Meetups in the first 5 months of 2013.

Maybe it is the great content and discussion we have shared among our Meetup members in person, including panel discussions on topics people want/need to hear about, such as:

Maybe it is due to the fact that many people, even if they are in New York City, can not make it to the NYC DAM Meetup due to scheduling, geographic or limited space reasons. People still want to listen and learn from what is discussed at the NYC DAM Meetups. It only makes sense to video record our panel discussions in order to share this knowledge beyond scheduling constraints, across all time zones and through most geographic  borders.

This is is why we decided to share the NYC DAM Meetups. Openly. Globally. Video online.  Free of charge to all viewers.

How

As I visited other Meetups which I joined, some events were recorded while most were not. I visited a Meetup called MoDevDC (on Mobile Development in the Washington DC area. They record every Meetup because Mobile Application Development is kind of really popular right now and they too have a global audience. It happens that I know the person who is doing their video recording. So I did what anyone should do when they have an idea and see a potential solution in front of them. Ask lots of questions, explore what is possible and then plan a pilot project to see how realistic it is for all parties. We are very luckily, Anthony Allen was ready and willing to do this for the NYC DAM Meetup.

We are still working out the details on how to fund this initiative while we have people’s attention. Some are already interested in contributing to this.

Where

Since YouTube is one of the most popular channels we decided to post these videos so there were no limitations. Sharing and embedding from YouTube is easy. This will be shared elsewhere. Now all you need to do is visit http://www.youtube.com/nycdam1

What

We plan to record the NYC DAM Meetups going forward.

Now you can literally see what happens when you ask to share openly.
