New Year, New DAM Book

Happy New Year

After months of work, Elizabeth Keathley, with contributions from Ralph Windsor and myself, released a new book a few days before 2016.

Digital Asset Management: Content Architectures, Project Management, and Creating Order Out of Media Chaos: Second Edition

The second edition “…contains 30% new and updated material, including a full new chapter on risk and change management. Incorporating quotes and material from leaders in the field, as well as sample charts, graphs, and even job descriptions that readers are encouraged to reuse and adapt for their own purposes, this book is a must-have for anyone learning about Digital Asset Management.”

Enjoy.

Are you going to the largest Digital Asset Management Conference of 2015?

Historically, the largest DAM specific conference in the world takes place in New York City every year.

Henry Stewart DAM Conferences occur in a number of major cities, however the capital of DAM, like it or not, is still New York City. Hundreds of DAM professionals converge like beehive in Manhattan each year to network and to share ideas for a few days, whether those people are based in the New York City area or not.

On Wednesday, May 6, 2015 there are:

  • 5 pre-conference tutorial sessions (these are extra)
  • 1 pre-conference social meetup with NYC DAM Meetup, the world’s largest DAM Meetup group (this is free of charge)

The actual DAM NY Conference happens on Thursday, May 7 and Friday, May 8, 2015 with:

  • 40+ case studies, presentations, collaborative working sessions and techlabs across 4 tracks
  • 55+ speakers presenting

You can do early bird registration before Friday March 20, 2015 and save quite a bit.

If you use a discount code, before or after March 20, you will save another $100 off registration.

See you at DAM NY 2015.

DAM Foundation creates and launches Digital Asset Management courses online

After many requests from the DAM community and over a year of work, the DAM Foundation has created and launched online courses on Digital Asset Management to meet the increasing demand.

Special thanks to Elizabeth Keathley, Mark Davey, some other DAM Foundation board members and other DAM professionals who helped create these online courses. DAM Foundation has launched the first online course in August 2014.

These courses are self-paced. Each assessment is reviewed by a DAM Professional.

According to the DAM Foundation website…

“The first lesson of the five-part Introduction to Digital Asset Management course is offered for free at damfoundation.org. Should participants complete the first lesson and achieve a passing mark from the education committee member overseeing their work, then the opportunity to sign up for the remaining lessons in the course will be offered. The cost of the entire five part course is $360.00 USD, and upon completion participants will receive a certificate from the DAM Foundation, as well as publicity via the DAM Foundation’s social media channels celebrating their accomplishment. The time frame for completed coursework is extended as it is expected that participants are working professionals themselves. Participants will be given six months from the pass mark of the first lesson to complete the coursework for all five lessons. Details of required coursework can be read on the Introduction to Digital Asset Management  main page.”

UPDATE: DAM Foundation is no longer active as of January 5, 2017.

Fifth Anniversary of NYC DAM Meetup

On July 20, 2009, Chad Beer started the NYC DAM Meetup with Michael Hollitscher.

When they started this Digital Asset Management specific meetup, I still remember how exciting the idea of having regular events about DAM was. And still is.

We would not have to wait an entire year for the few annual conferences to roll in for a couple days to network with the best in the field. It has become very clear that New York City is the DAM Capital of the world. No other area in the world has more DAM professionals and no other city has more people showing up to DAM specific events than New York City.

In January 2013, the author joined as a Co-Organizer to setup monthly Meetups for the Digital Asset Management community.

We doubled our membership from 300 members back in February 2013 to 600 members in January 2014.

To this day, we are still the world’s largest DAM meetup as seen here: http://digital-asset-management.meetup.com/

How did we do it?

  • Steady topics of interest to the DAM community
  • Great content consisting of panel discussions and speakers
  • Connecting with many like minded professionals willing to speak and share their experiences.
  • Scheduling events after work on weekdays
  • Using a model inclusion, not exclusion. We have rivals sitting next to each other and we are all okay with that. Interested students and job seekers are welcomed just like seasoned professionals.
  • Looking at multiple perspectives across many sectors, not just one.
  • Looking at the real world successes and challenges from the field of DAM. No unicorns and rainbows here.
  • Having a lots of networking opportunities in person.
  • Purposefully maintaining zero budget.
  • Having great organizations to host our events.
  • Maintaining free membership and free attendance to any NYC DAM Meetup. Just RSVP and show up.
  • In May 2013, we got sponsorships to video recording all of our speaking sessions going forward so these could be posted on a YouTube channel for the global DAM community to watch afterward.
  • Oh, I almost forgot… commitment, dedication and hard work. All of the NYC DAM Meetup Organizers do this on their limited spare time as volunteers to benefit their professional community.

You are not alone in the DAM world. It is just a matter of connecting with other professionals.

We will have a NYC DAM meetup scheduled to celebrate our first 5 years this month.

If you are interested in Digital Asset Management, you are always welcome to RSVP and join us in person.
